So actually not really that at all. Actually just going to visit Philly for a couple days. I'm pretty excited, to tell you the truth. First and most importantly (to me, at least) is the chance to see one of my most charming and witty friends whom I haven't seen since God was a boy (or something along those lines) and get some excellent quality "what we're doing with our lives now, and why this plan is good/bad/ugly/lucrative/insane" conversations in. Probably offset by accents of "reminiscences" and "utter nonsense" and possibly even percussion with the flatware. All these things have been known to happen.
Secondly, I'll be going to a Quaker wedding. And you know how those Quakers party. Snap, son, it's gonna be wild. In reality, apparently there's no bridal party, no rings, no "man and wife", no reverend-type, and lots of quiet. I've been to a Quaker meeting and kind of think it's an excellent religion particularly for people who are, well, quiet, and probably like to smoke pot. It was remarkably non-judgemental, though, and probably one of the most comfortable religious gatherings I've ever been to. It's tempting to become a Quaker, for a' that. Particularly the pacifist part. However, it will be important to see how they party. I need a religion that thinks highly of having a good time -- no "vale of tears" for me! I mean, shoot, Southern Baptists have the traditional Sunday barbeque lunch on lockdown (the mouth, it waters), and just about every Catholic street fair or festival or holy day I've been to boasts at least two different ethnic cuisines (usually Italian and Polish, if not Latin American...) AND alcohol. Always alcohol. There's money in beer, you know. And the Catholic church, she likes the money. Every church likes the money. The Seventh Day Adventists are rolling in it.
Anny-hinny, the point is that I will indeed be in Philadelphia. If anyone has any great ideas about what to see or where to go and what good restaurants might be found...er, um, actually it'll have to wait until my NEXT trip to Philly, when I'm not going to be running around like crazy. Oh summer -- how you do fly!
