"The" 4-Way Stop

Earlier I wrote an email to my sisters and began an anecdote about this one time that my grandmother cruised through the 4-way stop without stopping...

...and then realized that to anyone but my family (or other She-town residents, for that matter) the phrase "The 4-Way Stop" would probably sound entirely too vague. There are some towns that have only one stoplight. Some counties in WV that only have one stoplight. Our town finally has stoplights -- albeit outside the "city" limits -- and we've always had more than one 4-way stop, but in my wee village there's only one 4-way stop that matters. You don't have to say "the 4-way stop at Duke Street and German Street". You don't even have to say "the 4-way stop at the top of the hill". Just, "The 4-way stop" will do.
