Environmental Disaster for the New Year

Over a billion gallons of coal sludge flooded Harriman, Tennessee on Dec. 22nd, 2008. Merry Christmas.

And one Tennessee woman is blogging about the experience. Her entries really remind me of how whip-smart, no-nonsense Appalachians often are -- she's internet-literate, motivated, vocal, organized and very, very pissed off.

Please keep the Tennessee Valley residents in your thoughts.
